Hi I’m Melanie and a voluntary presenter here at Radio Hospital Blackburn.
I've been on involved with Radio Hospitals Blackburn since March 2019. Initially, I presented along with other volunteers on Wednesday evenings, then I presented a show with Alison on Monday nights, and now I present a show with Nathan on the Saturday lunch show from midday.
I have always loved music, and have never been far away from a radio. I remember having a bright yellow transistor radio which went with me everywhere in my teenage years in the 1970s. I have fond memories of listening to the chart show on Sunday evenings and the children’s show on Saturday mornings.
It never occurred to me that I could become a presenter before I contacted RHB in 2019 asking if they needed volunteers. I was delighted when I found out that opportunities were available and the rest, as they say, is history. I am now secretary of the RHB committee and enjoy supporting such a worthwhile cause.
I’ve made some lovely friends, and enjoy presenting shows – especially when I can play my favourite songs. I have a very broad and eclectic taste in music, although my preferred decades are the 60s, 70s and 80s.
On a personal note, I am retired, and have a lovely Border Collie called Nell. I have a very active social life and enjoy art classes.
